Electrical Repair & Installation in Maryland & Virginia

Swift Tech LLC provides electrical repair and installation across Maryland and Virginia, dispatched from Frederick, MD, covering panel upgrades, circuit and outlet wiring, lighting, ceiling fans and EV charger installation. Electrical faults are the ones homeowners most often live with rather than fix. A breaker that trips every few weeks, an outlet that only works if you wiggle the plug, a light that flickers when the furnace kicks on — none of it stops the house working, so it gets tolerated. All three are also the early, cheap, visible stage of a fault that gets more expensive and less visible later.

Diagnosis matters more here than in any other trade, because the symptom is almost never where the problem is. A tripping breaker can be the breaker, the circuit, or something plugged into it three rooms away. The $69 buys the testing that tells those apart, and it comes off the bill when you approve the work.

What it is doing

Find the symptom. We will find the fault.

A breaker keeps tripping

A breaker doing its job is not a fault, it is a warning. It means the circuit is drawing more than it should, there is a short, or there is a ground fault. Repeatedly resetting it without finding out which of the three is the actual problem is how a nuisance becomes a hazard. A breaker that trips the instant it is reset is a different fault from one that trips after twenty minutes of load.

The lights flicker or dim when something turns on

A brief dip when a large motor starts — an air conditioner, a well pump — can be normal. Persistent flickering, or lights that dim across the whole house, points at a loose connection, an overloaded circuit, or a failing main lug or neutral. A loose neutral in particular is worth taking seriously, because it can damage electronics throughout the property.

An outlet is warm, discoloured or smells

Stop using it and call. Warmth, browning around the slots or any burning smell means heat is being generated at a connection that should not be generating heat — typically a loose termination or a worn contact. This is the fault most likely to become a fire, and it is usually an inexpensive repair when caught at this stage.

Half the power is out but the main is on

Losing roughly half the circuits in a property while the main breaker is still on is the classic signature of a lost leg — one of the two incoming phases has failed, at the panel, the meter or the utility drop. Some 240-volt appliances will behave strangely while 120-volt circuits on the surviving leg still work.

You need more capacity than the panel has

Older panels run out of spaces long before they run out of usefulness, and an EV charger, a hot tub or a kitchen renovation can be the thing that finally forces the question. Whether that is a subpanel, a service upgrade, or simply reorganising what is there is a load calculation, not a guess.

Panels and service

The part of the system everything else depends on, and the part most often left at whatever the original builder installed.

  • Electrical panel upgrades and replacement
  • Subpanel installation for additions and garages
  • Breaker replacement, including AFCI and GFCI protection
  • Load calculations before adding major equipment
  • Diagnosis of tripping, buzzing and overheating panels

Wiring, outlets and switches

Most of the calls, and the category where a correct diagnosis saves the most money.

  • Dead circuit and intermittent fault troubleshooting
  • Outlet and switch replacement, including GFCI in wet locations
  • New circuits for appliances, workshops and window units
  • Aluminium wiring remediation in properties that have it
  • Dedicated circuits for HVAC equipment

Lighting and fixtures

Straightforward work that goes wrong in interesting ways when the existing box or wiring is not what it should be.

  • Interior and exterior lighting installation
  • Recessed lighting and dimmer compatibility
  • Ceiling fan installation, including boxes rated for the load
  • Landscape and security lighting

EV chargers and modern loads

The most common reason a Maryland or Virginia homeowner discovers what their panel can actually support.

  • Level 2 EV charger installation
  • Service capacity assessment before purchase
  • Dedicated 240-volt circuits for ranges, dryers and hot tubs
  • Whole-home and point-of-use surge protection

Asked and answered

Electrical — questions we get asked

Short answers. If yours is not here, call and ask — the phone is answered by someone who does this work.

Why does my breaker keep tripping?
A breaker trips because the circuit is overloaded, there is a short, or there is a ground fault. Those are three different problems with three different repairs, and telling them apart requires testing rather than guesswork. Swift Tech diagnoses which one it is for a flat $69, waived if you approve the repair.
Do I need a panel upgrade for an EV charger?
Not always. It depends on your existing service capacity and what else is running on it, which is settled by a load calculation. Swift Tech assesses the panel and says whether a dedicated circuit is enough or whether the service needs upgrading, before any equipment is bought.
Is a warm or discoloured outlet dangerous?
Yes. Warmth, browning or a burning smell at an outlet means heat is being generated at a connection that should not generate heat, usually a loose termination. Stop using the outlet and call Swift Tech at (571) 478-1797 — caught at this stage it is normally an inexpensive repair.
Do you handle electrical and HVAC on the same visit?
Yes. Swift Tech covers HVAC, plumbing, electrical and appliance repair, so more than one problem can be looked at on a single visit under the same single $69 diagnostic fee.
Can you install the dedicated circuit my new HVAC system needs?
Yes. Because Swift Tech covers both trades, the electrical work a heating or cooling installation depends on is handled by the same company rather than coordinated between two.

Tell us what it is doing. We will tell you when we can be there.
